Ullapool is the largest town in the north-west of Scotland, but with a population of only 1500 - but it does have a Tescos, the next nearest supermarket being over 60 miles away in one direction and 120 miles in the other! So a popular staging post on the NC500, but a lovely town in itself on the banks of Loch Broom. We spent a week in a cottage on the loch-side, and enjoyed the peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings as you will see from the video.

Phillip and Sheila, you may know the answer to this, but isn't Ullapool famous for its Christmas lights? I have also because of that heard it is known as "Blackpool of the North!"
I am looking forward to discovering it!
Wow! It is stunning!
Thank you for our trip and I for one certainly enjoyed it.

You know you’re in Ullapool when the little town is a sea town, lorries roll from the docks, a gaggle of girls buy ice-cream, the dogs hang round gossiping the road goes nowhere and two old people hold hands.
You know you’re in Ullapool when the little town is a proud town, the steamer sails for Stornoway, the shops are stowed with locals all saying it is “quiet”, and a wifie on the sea-front locks herself out of her car.
You know it is Ullapool when everyone knows the poets, when Inverness isn’t mentioned, when you can’t find a policeman but you couldn’t possibly need one. It is Ullapool when you are as glad as this you have been there today.
I looked up Ullapool and yes, apparently its Christmas lights are something special and thought you might enjoy this short video of them. You can tell its a smallish place and certainly no Blackpool!
This does look like a lovely community celebration in Ullapool. It seems a quiet place with wonderful scenery around the town and dock.
I don't know if it is just me but this year's Christmas lights seem so much better this year, brighter, more of them and with so many houses decked out as well as town and village streets - it is quite spectacular! Next week or the week after, we as a family are having a little drive round to look at them one evening and have some festive joy - maybe even fish and chips afterwards at home. A small thing really but in these difficult days, quite exciting too! Why don't you give it a whirl too? I'd love to hear about any highlights of your little lights-tours!
I have had some lovely photos sent in again recently, some will be making an appearance in the advent calendar, but this one I just had to share today! This one of Jan's is "Through a window" and shows this cute but cheeky squirrel getting his hearty breakfast.
Love in a basket
I had love brought in a
basket to me today .
A thoughtful gift from a thoughtful friend.
Just at the time I needed it.
The Love of Christ gets shown in many ways.
In prayers, texts, emails, calls, and even a knock at the door
with a smile.
How lucky are we to be the recipients of these treasures.
