Croeso i addoli Dydd Sul Welcome to you all as we celebrate Trinity and today's worship is led by our Ordinand in the Parish, Rick Grattan.
Welcome to you all as we celebrate Trinity Sunday
The Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
And also, with you.
Dear friends in Christ, we have come together on this Trinity Sunday to celebrate in word and song and to affirm our faith in God, the Three in One.
Hymn: Praise the Father Praise the son
Heavenly Father, all hearts are open to you.
No secrets are hidden from you.
Purify us with the love of your Holy Spirit
That we may love and worship you faithfully,
through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen
Lord, have mercy Lord, have Mercy
Christ, have mercy Christ, have mercy
Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy
Heavenly Father,
we have sinned in thought, word, and deed,
and have failed to do
what we ought to have done.
We are sorry and truly repent.
For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ
who died for us, forgive us all that is past,
and lead us in his way
to walk as children of light. AMEN
May God our Father,
who by the Lord Jesus Christ
has reconciled the world to himself
and forgives the sins of all who truly repent,
pardon and deliver us from all our sins,
and grant us the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. AMEN
The Gloria.
Glory to God in the highest
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King,
Almighty God and Father,
we worship you; we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us.
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer,
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God, the Father. AMEN
The Collect for Trinity Sunday
Almighty and everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: We beseech thee, that thou wouldest keep us steadfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities, who lives and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.
Readings
2 Corinthians 13:11-13 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
11 Finally, brothers and sisters,[a] farewell.[b] Put things in order, listen to my appeal,[c] agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. As all the saints greet you.13 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of[d] the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
Gospel Acclamation
Your words oh lord give Joy to my heart and light to my Soul
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
This is the Gospel of the lord
Thanks be to Christ
Reflection
One of the greatest doctrines in the Bible is represented by a word that is not even found in the Bible. That word of course is trinity. My fellow students and I at theological college quiver in our seats every time the word is uttered in fear of being put on the spot to give our own deep theological thoughts to our peers on the subject. However, it is during this period of pandemic lockdown that the simplest analogy has been given to me and from where I hear you ask from?
My youngest Grandson aged 8!
With the onset of home schooling during the past 12 weeks my video calls to my son and his family have often been interrupted by their keen interest to show Grandad their latest experiment sent from school and it was during one of these calls when I was invited to witness their efforts at splitting light rays using a bowl of water and cling film! There in front of me was the explanation from an 8-year-old. My grandson went on to explain that that light was made up of 3 elements or different types of rays but we only see the light as well one light… it got me to reflecting (no pun intended) on things that act together as one ….. during the past 3 months we have been staying at home to protect the NHS…. not only Doctors or only nurses or the thousands of other staff. No, we stayed at home to protect the NHS. We didn’t value one above the other we saw the value and equal in all. Each bringing its skills and talents where needed, each and every one special in what they bring to the world.
Later when we pray together we will pray to thank the creator God the one who has revitalized and revigorated the earth and creation and then we will thank the redeemer God who gave his son to die on the cross to mend this broken world and finally we will pray with thanks for the spirit of God, that’s helps us and guides us and protects us. Three prayers to the one God.
Someone once said concerning the Trinity, ''Define it, you lose your mind; deny it, you lose your soul.''
All I know for sure is I believe it and have faith in it for what the Trinity has done in the past, in the present and what it will do for our lives in the future if we let it. AMEN
The Creed
I believe and trust in God the father,
who created all that is.
I believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ,
who redeemed humankind.
I believe and trust in his Holy Spirit,
who gives life to the people of God.
I believe in and trust
father, Son and Holy Spirit. AMEN
Prayers of intercession:
Let us remember the Creator God O God the Father, we thank you that you are a creator God. We thank you that you have made all things and have made them well. That you have given to us all things richly to enjoy. For the beauty and the bounty of this fair earth. We thank you, O Father who has made all things and all people. Forgive us if in pride and selfishness and in anger we have misused your gifts and have used for death that which was meant for life.
Lord in your mercy - Hear our prayer
Let us remember the Redeemer God O Lord Jesus Christ, the Son, we thank you for your redeeming power. You love us and we see your love shown most clearly on the cross where you gave of your life to conquer death and to make well the brokenness of the universe. We thank you Son of God who loves us with a never-ending love. Forgive us if we have treated your love lightly as a little thing and if we have shown little love in return
Lord in your mercy - Hear our prayer
Let us remember the Spirit of God O Holy Spirit of God we thank you that you are with us at all times and in all places. For the guidance which you give to us, for the knowledge which you have given to us for your continual upholding, strengthening and protecting power. We thank you that you are with us Spirit of God Forgive us if we have tried to live alone and have been reluctant to walk with you or draw strength from you.
Lord in your mercy - Hear our prayer
May the blessing of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Three in One and One in Three be on us now and stay with each one of us always. Amen.
Lord God in spite of our unbelief and lack of understanding of who you are, show us your new way of living. Amen.
Merciful Father accept these prayers for the sake of your son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Hymn: Great is thy faithfulness
The Grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all now and ever more. AMEN
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
