I thought we might need to kick ourselves into this New Year with something we can all do should we wish to. A competition! With a small prize for the winner as well!
You may have seen, a good few weeks ago now, a number of celebrities taking to social media sites to partake in a version of Ernest Hemingway's Six Word Stories. The point of their trend was to bring an uplifting message to cheer on key workers and the nation in general in these dark and cold days, when it can be quite miserable! The exercise is a simple one, but one that gives surprising outcomes; six words can so often have a powerful and poignant message! Knowing what a creative and talented bunch you all are, I thought this was something we could all have a go at.
I would like you to write a story about Winter in just six words only. Six words that together create an uplifting tone. It can be creative or descriptive, use Christmas card scenes to help inspire you or what is about you. This though isn't Christmas, but Winter - think about the long hard days of January or February. Think about the dominant colours outside, the weather, how people look, think actually or physically it is up to you! You must though only use words. Try a thesaurus for variety of language and experiment at home, do send the ones you settle on to me at rhianprime1960@gmail.com by Saturday 16th January 2021. You can of course accompany your story with a photo or drawing.
Christmas
Star, angel, shepherds,
welcoming Christ
Christmas
Twinkling evergreen lights,
dance upon dreams.
Monty Don was one of the celebrities who took part a few weeks ago. Follow the below link to hear the seasonal story he created:
So lets hope this gets you all creative, as I want you to keep your stories close to you (so don't lose them once you've submitted them!) - more to be revealed soon! It doesn't mean you have to be a skilled story writer but something we can all have a go at and we might even discover we enjoy it!
