I can't help feel sorry for those off on holidays today, after all the lovely weather we have enjoyed throughout a lot of lockdown and now it is a bit dreary, can be wet and looking quite Autumnal. I keep thinking the ground will be cold and hard for those camping or caravanning and everyone is in need of an all important break, to recharge our batteries, especially with the news this week that there is an expected second wave of the virus this winter.
So I thought we would go off travelling on our own blog adventures and as I have promised you, we are travelling this Saturday to see the wonders of the Rose city, of Petra in Jordan. this is some remarkable place and some of you may have already visited it.
"Located amid rugged desert canyons and mountains in what is now the southwestern corner of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Petra was once a thriving trading center and the capital of the Nabataean empire between 400 B.C. and A.D. 106. The city sat empty and in near ruin for centuries."
"Petra is an ancient city that lies in Jordan and dates back to the fourth century B.C. The present ruins of the once great and important metropolis and trading centre now serve as an important archeological site and tourist attraction. It is used for tv and film settings.
Petra is located about 150 miles south of both Jerusalem and Amman, the capital of Jordan, and about midway between Damascus, Syria, and the Red Sea, making it ideally suited as a hub of commerce in the area.
The site is considered significant by historians and archeologists alike because of its beautiful rock-cut architecture and innovative water management system, the latter of which made the region inhabitable, given that it is surrounded by desert and rugged, mountainous terrain." (A and E television).
This is quite a long video as there is much to see in this ruinous and ancient site, but feel free to dip in and out as suits you and your time. It is amazing and I think you will be impressed.
Some of us haven't ventured as far this week, but Di, Penny and Tyann, as well as Sean and Eleanor had a wonderful visit to Dyffryn Gardens. Thank you Di for the flower journey:
Apparently it is as beautiful as ever there, but with staff on furlough, grounds were a bit wild and in need of a tidy and grass cut. It will come, but so good to be able to be back. Thank you for sharing your special and first day out!
Khaleesi’s Greek Odyssey - Jan Farthing Crew ready excited. Boat shipshape and ready for the off. Father and son both with life time mates. Trip of a lifetime. storms and turbulence frightening was the first leg of the trip. Saved! by being good sailors, in a little vessel on a wide wide ocean. The family anxiously tracking and observing. Wales, England, Ireland, and Australia. Praying wishing them safe & well. My boat is so small and the ocean is so Big!!! Arrived safe thankfully. Only to be told STOP Overnight the world had changed in the blink of an eye. They were stuck. Far from home not able to get on land . But they were a strong United family. Water running out. not much to eat worries over medicine. Then The unexpected hand of kindness A people that at their core a tradition of looking after strangers. Reaching out hospitality. At last fresh water They now would eat well. Long months of bobbing on various island shores . Making their own entertainment, board games, quizzes, keeping in touch. A happy little band of four. Beautiful nature, surrounding them. Sunsets sunrises Dolphins to swim with Birds joining them for breakfast. A beautiful turtle Accidentally lost caught, saved, sent on his way. What adventures. News at last they were allowed on the land . First port of call to give thanks to the people that helped. At last this dreadful disease that has blighted the world was at last receding. The world would never be the same. My lovely ones are safe and coming home at last. Prayers have been answered . Thank be to God.
We are glad the family are home and safe! Thank you for your poem, Jan!
