I know Philip and Sheila have brought us up to the North East before, on a Friday, but I thought there is so much to see and do here, we could return to sample a little more. We haven't travelled up to the North East for a few years now, since Dad has been unwell, but Mum and Dad still have many friends in the area and certainly more than a few fond memories. James, my brother, still lives on the edge of Newcastle and took me to our first stop today, a good few years back now!
This is quite a long tour, so do "dip in and out of it" as you wish over the week. It is like a much large version of St Fagans - and a more active one too! See what you think.
We all have our favourite cathedrals and buildings, this is Mum's and I must say, there's something rather special about it. Where are your favorite buildings? Do send a photo or memory of them in!
To finish up today, I thought we could have a visit to a famous smokery. Have you tried a Craster Kipper? They are quite something - and I'm not a huge fish fan anyway! Mum tells the tale of somebody from her church in Framwellgate Moor, Durham, who would turn up at the house every week with kippers. My grandparents were thrilled to try them and went home with kippers for the freezer! Enjoy the tour:
This week, because there is quite a lot to enjoy in the North East, I will keep back all the lovely things you have sent in until next Saturday. Thanks, Becky.
I like Ripon too - it feels perhaps more intimate than Durham. Mum likes the starkness of Durham and the elegance of the Galilee chapel. Becky x
As beautiful as Durham Cathedral is, my favourite of the many Cathedrals I have visited is Ripon in Yorkshire. Mary
