Isle of Mull Visit One with Sheila and Philip

Bunessan and the Ross of Mull

We are delighted today to start a new adventure with Philip and Sheila on teh Isle of Mull. Today is our first trip and we have another two to enjoy as well. Thank you so much both as these days out are so important to so many people and much anticipated.

"The Isle of Mull is in the Inner Hebrides, which is accessed by ferry

from Oban on the Scottish mainland. We spent a week staying at Bunessan,

which was convenient for the short ferry crossing to Iona which we

visited on a number of days. You will all be familiar with the tune

'Bunessan' as we sing that Gaelic melody to 'Morning has broken'; it was

originally set to a hymn written by Mary Macdonald, who lived in the

village.

In this video we visit the Ross of Mull Historical Centre, then drive

down to Ardalanish to see the weaving mill, at which we had our morning

cup of coffee and I bought a cap, using wool that reflects the colours

of the area, which has served me well during winter months. We walk

along the beach at Ardalanish Bay, and finally a short walk to what is

marked on the map as an ancient hill fort, though little remains today."

This was a beautiful and relaxing trip and look forward to seeing more of Mull. It is all new for me!

I found the wild flowers gorgeous and obviously the seaweed fertiliser is good stuff. I do so love wild flower meadows and we had a small one on our front garden in the Narth which was also a delight.

Philip looked most fetching in his new tweed cap with its distinctive pattern. It is lovely to see the wool used in a rich variety of ways and using different weaving patterns. I bet it is warm to wear!

The Isle of Mull.

Valerie Dunbar's abbreviated version of D. MacPhail's lyrics

The Isle of Mull is of Isles the fairest,

Of ocean's gems 'tis the first and rarest;

Green grassy island of sparkling fountains,

Of waving woods and high tow'ring mountains.

How pleasant 'twas in the sweet May morning,

The rising sun thy gay fields adorning;

The feather'd songsters their lays were singing,

While rocks and woods were with echoes ringing.

But gone are now all those joys for ever,

Like bubbles bursting on yonder river.

Farewell, farewell, to thy sparkling fountains,

Thy waving woods and high tow'ring mountains.

The Isle of Mull is of Isles the fairest,

Of ocean's gems 'tis the first and rarest;

Green grassy island of sparkling fountains,

Of waving woods and high tow'ring mountains;

Green grassy island of sparkling fountains,

Of waving woods and high tow'ring mountains.

Have a good day!

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

Continuing with our 'Feel Good Friday' celebrations, here are this week's two brilliant things that the world has witnessed since the first lockdown started in March 2020.

The Muslim Council of Britain has elected its first female leader.

Zara Mohammed said it was an "honour" to be appointed as the new secretary general after winning the most votes in a poll of affiliate groups of the UK's largest Muslim umbrella organisation. She succeeds Harun Khan, who completed a maximum of four years as the head of the MCB.

The 29-year-old from Glasgow said she hoped more women and young people would be inspired to seek leadership roles.

BioNTech, the German firm which together with Pfizer created one of the COVID-19 vaccines, says they have used the same technology to create a vaccine which delayed the onset and reduced the severity of multiple sclerosis (MS) in mice.

Clinical trials published in Science showed that not only was the progression of the disease halted, but some lost motor function was recovered in the mice.

Happy Friday!

Thank you Phillip and Sheila a lovely outing again, it reminded me of a trip we did years ago up the west coast of Scotland, we stayed at Oban and then went across to Mull and it was so unspoiled. Lovely people and scenery. Happy memories! X
