Friday night is Quiz Night - 04.09.2020



Just as the schools are going back, I thought it only fair that we brush up and go back to school too! Last week we looked at a range of questions from current GCSE syllabus'... how did you get on? Let's take a look at the answers:


  1. What must an object have in order to be affected by gravity? Mass

  2. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, where does Miss Havisham live? Satis House

  3. Purple paint is made by mixing red paint and blue paint in the ratio 5 : 2. Yan has 30 litres of red paint and 9 litres of blue paint. What is the maximum amount of purple paint he can make? 31.5 litres

  4. How many chromosomes does a human have in each body cell? 23 pairs

  5. What is the technique called where a writer will describe the weather to create a certain atmosphere? Pathetic fallacy

  8. In William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, who does Claudio fall in love with? Hero

  9. What type of pressure system are hurricanes and cyclones associated with? Low

Well, I think it's only fair that we give ourselves another chance to redeem ourselves, so here's Back to School round 2!




  1. What has an ionised atom lost or gained? Protons, electrons or neutrons?

  2. What does the art term chiaroscuro describe? How an artwork relates to the size of a person, the use of heavy light and dark in an artwork or the effect that warm colours have in a composition?

  3. What is "Pb" in the periodic table? Iron, potassium or lead?

  4. For how many semiquavers does a crotchet last? 2, 4 or 6?

  5. Who is Hamlet's uncle? Claudius, Horatio or Polonius?

  6. Which is the correct neuron pathway in a reflex? Sensory neurone - motor neurone - relay neurone, sensory neurone - relay neurone - motor neurone or motor neurone - sensory neurone - relay neurone?

  7. A bag contains only red and blue counters. The ratio of red to blue counters is 4:5. The total number of counters in the bag is 36. Find the number of red counters in the bag. 22, 19 or 16?

  8. Name a mineral that plants don't need for healthy growth. Potassium, magnesium, phosphorus or nitrogen?
