Let us stop and pause on this remembrance of the Armistice.
We have memories of family, friends, heard stories of acts of bravery, read books, so this day does have an impact on us here on 11th November 2020.
Marching Men - Marjorie Pickthall
Under the level winter sky I saw a thousand Christs go by. They sang an idle song and free As they went up to calvary. Careless of eye and coarse of lip, They marched in holiest fellowship. That heaven might heal the world, they gave Their earth-born dreams to deck the grave. With souls unpurged and steadfast breath They supped the sacrament of death. And for each one, far off, apart, Seven swords have rent a woman's heart.
Let us be quiet and in the stillness of this day remember the horrors of war,
but also the peace that came from them and the peace of God which transcends all.
Thank God for those who we know of, or feel we know,
for a date in our calendar when we can openly think and bring memories to the fore.
To commit to the way of peace
in our homes, communities, nation and internationally,
to move forward and not to be static in the past.
To remember, touch others and give thanks to God.
I saw this on Monday and thought it makes for an interesting view of things for today:
