Alpine Travels

A number of people have asked me if I have heard anything about the Cornavirus vaccine in our area and I have now heard it is now happening, but quite slowly. So we all just have to stay safe and wait patiently and remember it is in age order!

Also a number of people have also been asking how they can the comment on the blog. If when you are on the blog just scroll down the page after the blog item has finished and eventually you will come to a heading "comment" and simply click on that and it should enable you to log in and comment. Remember though you need to register on the blog to receive email notifications and so that you can comment.

I do appreciate all your comments whether sent via the blog or in emails or calls. Thank you so very much.

Well, it's Saturday again! Hooray we are off travelling, this time popping over to the Alps for some fun and adventure. Pack your ski wear, your thermals, your camera and suitable footwear and off we go!

Here is our introduction to an Alpine Winter- its not just Christmas markets and carols!

Did that whet your appetite? Fancy a hot chocolate now? We too may see some of the white stuff in coming days. A photo opportunity perhaps for the calendar?

While the snow is fresh and crisp we are heading up the mountain to make the most of perfect conditions and the skiing season. It is blue sky and sun and we may well need those googles.

That was exhilarating wasn't it? It reminded me of the once I went skiing from school. I wasn't a natural, shall I say, but did enjoy it all. My friend Rosemarie managed to not master the ski plough and on a hillside descent crashed into a hayrick - head first!

I think the things that will stay with me most were the noise of skis on the snow, the noise of whizzing through the still air, the crisp walking on frozen snow, the feeling of the heat from the sun and having to use sun cream to prevent burning, even though it snowed from time to time outside. Have you been snow walking or skiing and what do you remember most clearly?

Finally we shall soothe our way for home with a jingle bells trip on an open sleigh. This is something I would love to do so on my "to do" list at some point.

SNOW - Walter de la Mare

No breath of wind, No gleam of sun – Still the white snow Whirls softly down Twig and bough And blade and thorn All in an icy Quiet, forlorn. Whispering, rustling, Through the air On still and stone, Roof, - everywhere, It heaps its powdery Crystal flakes, Of every tree A mountain makes; ‘Til pale and faint At shut of day Stoops from the West One wint’ry ray, And, feathered in fire Where ghosts the moon, A robin shrills His lonely tune.
