A Call to Arms

Well, what a change in the weather from yesterday. It is grey and chilly and apparently rain from tonight for the week ahead, but just let's see what happens. gentle rain is just the thing for our gardens, growing plants and seeds and to refresh the browning grass.

We have had a request about scrub bags for NHS staff. If you have some spare time, a sewing machine and some old fabric then this may be for you.

These bags can be made from old sheets, duvets etc and need to be about 40 cm by 112 cm in size with a drawstring top, using cotton tape and not elastic. They are used by staff to pop in their dirty scrubs (uniform) and then to bring home in the bag and that placed complete in the washing machine for a 60 degree wash. It means that NHS staff do not have to further contaminate themselves after leaving work, as they already have to follow a very strict and exacting proceedure before they can even mix with their family.

If you feel you can make one or even a few then when finished please phone me for more information. The Rotary members will take them to the hospitals for distribution.

We are grateful to Jan for sharing this need with us. Thank you.

There is some amazing work being done for the NHS and for which we are most grateful.

I am also very aware of the role of teachers, teaching staff and support workers in schools at the present. They are working round the clock some sometimes from 7:00- 7or 8:00 pm Mondays to Sundays. They have no special equipment and are working with key workers' children, some of whom are very young. They are also having to set off for work in some places up to an hour earlier too.

Prayer

Generous God,

We bring before you all who work in and for our health service. We rememeber what dangers they can face, as they care for people who are poorly, may be with Covid-19 and with other medical issues. We pray for the staff and all the sacrifices they are making both personally and as an organisation.

We pray too for all key workers in whatever sphere of life they work. I ask your prayers today for all who work in schools, to keep children of key workers as safe as possible and often with risk attached.

May we your people walk with care through life, remembering with gratitude all who serve us and help us to serve one one another too.

In the name of the living Christ,

AMEN

Now I told you a bit of a fib on Saturday past! The Bank Holiday has been altered to include V.E celebrations and isn't marked in my diary, only the usual Monday holiday!

So sorry! We are off on holiday, but it is from Friday 8th May until Monday 11th May 2020. Apologies! We can still observe the 3:00 toast and obviously if you wish to decorate your windows in red, white and blue you can join in. Holidaying virtually will not change anything.

I was sent Max Boyce's latest poem towards the Coronavirus episode. I think you might enjoy if you havent already heard it. It is always good to hear from Max.

I was also sent this earlier in the week to share. It's a duet between Andrea Bocelli and his son, Matteo:

Good poem read by Max Boyce and the singing by Andrea Bocelli and his son. Talking of father and son, We all have to make memories with our family members and try to use the time for that rather than getting annoyed with eachother (although we will sometimes as its stressful times) think of it as more time to get to know each other and spend precious time together that's what I told my friend the other day to make him more positive.
